HEARTIK Participated in the National AANHPI Advocacy Day Event in Washington D.C.

(08/20/2024)

In Washington, D.C. from June 27 to 30, the presentative from Heartik Club participated in the National AANHPI Advocacy Day event.
This event at the Fourth National Chinese Congress has significantly increased the AAPI community’s influence in American politics through direct discussions with members of Congress.
The President of the GNMS Branch, Amy Sun, represented the Heartik Club and engaged in productive conversations with congressional representatives. She and a group of Asian Americans visited Congressional Offices and met some staffers to discuss major issues facing the AAPI community. These issues include the fact that 33 states have prevented Chinese citizens from owning their land, as exemplified by the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, which shouldn‘t still exist in 2024. Additionally, the AAPI community’s history is not being taught in every US school, indirectly contributing to the increase in Asian Hate Crimes after the pandemic. The main purpose of the Asian American meeting with the staffers was to advocate for the passage of the Preemption Real Property Discrimination Act and the Teaching AANHPI History Act to fight for equal rights for the AANHPI community. Mental health issues were also discussed and emphasized to be solved promptly. Our representatives made a strong impact at the conference and ardently championed the rights of the developmental disabilities community. Let‘s unite in support of this important cause and provide strong backing for individuals with developmental disabilities so that every child with special needs can stand proudly in the spotlight and flourish.
