Establishment
Heartik Autism Awareness Organization was founded in March 2021 by Zheng (James) Zhou, an 8th grader at that time, with a vision to support autistic children in the community. To enhance the organization’s operations, James and his high school collaborators established Heartik Inc., a non-profit organization, on July 21, 2022. This strategic move paves the way for Heartik to grow and expand its reach step by step.
With a four-year effort, Heartik currently hosts 11 chapters from three countries. We have recruited over 150 volunteers who are working non-stop to serve 200 + families affected by autism.
Mission
Our mission is to advocate for autism awareness and inclusion, create opportunities for individuals with autism to achieve a better life and make a positive impact in their surrounding communities. We accomplish this through fundraising and a diverse range of academic and extracurricular activities:
Heartik has been raising funds through the sale of handmade artwork, hosting craft events to help autistic children develop new skills, creating hand-painted cards to uplift these children in hospitals, and conducting workshops to help autistic children develop their language skills. These efforts have garnered professional support and local media recognition.
Core Value
Heartik seeks to achieve our mission through the four compass points of our Core Values:
•Dedication is essential in our quest to support and uplift those in need. By fostering a culture of service and empathy, we can create a positive impact on society as a whole. Through dedication to the cause, we can spread positivity and fulfillment, not only for ourselves but for those we serve.
•Connection is at the heart of Heartik's mission. By fostering friendships between members and autistic individuals, we can improve social skills and promote inclusivity within our communities. Through these connections, we can create a more cohesive and supportive environment for all.
•Leadership plays a crucial role in driving change and making a difference. By empowering our members to take on leadership roles, we inspire and attract more individuals to join our cause. This not only enhances personal growth but also improves the quality of life for special needs children and the community at large.
•Innovation is key to addressing the complex challenges faced by special needs individuals. By continuously seeking out new solutions and technologies, we can better assist those in need and pave the way for a brighter future.
Certifying Organization of PVSA
Heartik Inc. is a Certifying Organization officially authorized by the AmeriCorps. Every September, we award the President's Volunteer Service Award to eligible volunteers who complete standard hours in a year. Volunteers can send their personal information and service forms to the headquarters. The club will then handle the application process for those who meet the requirements.
About The President's Volunteer Service Award(PVSA)
In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too. Led by the AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, this program allows Certifying Organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers.
